事實上，「Seasons in the Sun」絕(jue)對(dui)不是一(yi)首愉快(kuai)的(de)(de)曲子(zi)，甚至還十分(fen)的(de)(de)傷感。它是一(yi)位法國(guo)歌手Jacques Brel的(de)(de)作品，原名(ming)叫做「Le Moribond」（臨終的(de)(de)人(ren)），發表于1961年。歌曲的(de)(de)內容大致描述一(yi)個罹患癌(ai)癥、不久于人(ren)世(shi)的(de)(de)男(nan)子(zi)，在(zai)面臨死亡的(de)(de)時候，對(dui)父親(qin)、妻(qi)子(zi)以及摯友的(de)(de)依依難(nan)舍。
再創作
Brel私交相當不(bu)錯的(de)美(mei)國詩人(ren)歌(ge)(ge)手(shou)(shou)Rod McKuen，很(hen)早就把這首歌(ge)(ge)曲翻譯成(cheng)(cheng)(cheng)英文的(de)「Seasons in the Sun」，并且在(zai)1964年(nian)由(you)民歌(ge)(ge)界元(yuan)老(lao)的(de)Kingston Trio率先灌(guan)錄成(cheng)(cheng)(cheng)唱片(pian)，不(bu)過當時并沒(mei)有(you)造成(cheng)(cheng)(cheng)太大的(de)轟動。后來(lai)，跟Rod McKuen頗有(you)交情的(de)Terry Jacks把它(ta)重新灌(guan)錄，在(zai)1974年(nian)的(de)三月二日獲得全美(mei)排(pai)行三周冠(guan)軍(jun)，原本(ben)也(ye)沒(mei)有(you)在(zai)中國受到太多注意，直到幾(ji)年(nian)之后，才(cai)因為柯達的(de)廣告而在(zai)臺灣(wan)造成(cheng)(cheng)(cheng)了(le)瘋狂的(de)流(liu)行，只可惜主唱人(ren)Terry Jacks當時早就在(zai)歌(ge)(ge)壇(tan)消(xiao)失了(le)。這位男歌(ge)(ge)手(shou)(shou)留下(xia)來(lai)的(de)歌(ge)(ge)曲本(ben)來(lai)就不(bu)多，不(bu)過這首歌(ge)(ge)卻成(cheng)(cheng)(cheng)了(le)經典——盡管他的(de)詮釋老(lao)實說有(you)點(dian)失真。
新主唱歷史
來自加拿大的(de)(de)Terry Jacks成(cheng)長于溫哥華，高中(zhong)時代(dai)曾經贏得藝術獎學金，但是(shi)在建筑師(shi)、職(zhi)業(ye)高爾夫(fu)與音(yin)樂這三種行業(ye)中(zhong)，他(ta)(ta)卻選擇了后(hou)者，并且(qie)自組了一(yi)支The Chessman樂隊(dui)，不過并不成(cheng)功。有一(yi)次，他(ta)(ta)的(de)(de)樂隊(dui)應邀上電視表演，使他(ta)(ta)結識了一(yi)位漂亮的(de)(de)女歌手Susan Pesklevits，兩人一(yi)見鐘情，隨即結婚、并且(qie)展(zhan)開音(yin)樂事業(ye)上的(de)(de)合作(zuo)。
由于(yu)當(dang)時的唱(chang)片市場上，似乎以合唱(chang)團比較吃(chi)香，所以盡管只有他老婆一個(ge)人獨(du)唱(chang)，他們還是決定用The Poppy Family為(wei)名(ming)，并且在1970年(nian)以獲得(de)美(mei)國(guo)排(pai)行亞軍的「Which Way You Goin' Billy」一曲成名(ming)。可惜的是，這對夫妻在1973年(nian)就宣(xuan)告分手了(le)。
離婚之后，Terry Jacks繼續(xu)在歌壇奮斗。由于吉他(ta)彈得(de)不(bu)錯，他(ta)應(ying)邀為(wei)Beach Boys伴奏。有(you)一次，在錄(lu)音的(de)時候，他(ta)建議(yi)Beach Boys灌(guan)錄(lu)「Seasons in the Sun」這首(shou)歌。不(bu)過(guo)(guo)，錄(lu)完之后，可能是由于效果不(bu)如(ru)理想，Beach Boys決(jue)定(ding)不(bu)發(fa)行。而極為(wei)喜(xi)愛這首(shou)歌的(de)Terry則為(wei)了追悼一位意外過(guo)(guo)世的(de)好友，決(jue)定(ding)自己來灌(guan)唱。
Terry取得(de)作者的同意，把(ba)最后(hou)一(yi)(yi)段歌詞稍加修改，同時以輕快的節奏處理，使歌曲顯得(de)輕松一(yi)(yi)些，可是(shi)(shi)完(wan)工(gong)之后(hou)，在架子(zi)上一(yi)(yi)擺就(jiu)是(shi)(shi)一(yi)(yi)年。有一(yi)(yi)天，他(ta)把(ba)帶子(zi)放出來(lai)聽，正好一(yi)(yi)位年輕的送報生來(lai)到(dao)他(ta)家，聽到(dao)了這首歌，于是(shi)(shi)要求是(shi)(shi)否可以帶自己的朋友過(guo)來(lai)欣賞。
使Terry決定自己發行(xing)這(zhe)首(shou)歌(ge)曲(qu)。果(guo)然，這(zhe)首(shou)歌(ge)在加拿大造(zao)成(cheng)了(le)(le)(le)轟動，美國的(de)唱(chang)片(pian)(pian)公司(si)也慕名(ming)而(er)來(lai)，取(qu)得了(le)(le)(le)發行(xing)權。1974年三月(yue)，這(zhe)首(shou)歌(ge)不但(dan)獲得三周排行(xing)冠軍，更成(cheng)了(le)(le)(le)金(jin)唱(chang)片(pian)(pian)，銷(xiao)售達六百多萬(wan)張，使他(ta)名(ming)揚四海。不久之(zhi)后(hou)，他(ta)又(you)灌(guan)錄了(le)(le)(le)另外一首(shou)同樣由McKuen翻譯成(cheng)英語的(de)Brel作品「If You Go Away」，也得到(dao)了(le)(le)(le)不錯的(de)成(cheng)績。可(ke)惜(xi)的(de)是，他(ta)在歌(ge)壇(tan)只是曇(tan)花一現，一年之(zhi)后(hou)就(jiu)銷(xiao)聲匿跡了(le)(le)(le)。

說的(de)(de)是1963年的(de)(de)冬(dong)季，美(mei)國(guo)冷(leng)得徹骨，來美(mei)國(guo)樂(le)(le)(le)壇闖蕩(dang)的(de)(de)加(jia)拿大男孩(hai)Terry Jacks坐在沒有暖氣的(de)(de)屋子里(li)喝著(zhu)(zhu)白(bai)蘭(lan)地，耳(er)邊放著(zhu)(zhu)法(fa)國(guo)歌手Jacques Brel的(de)(de)《Lemoribond》。來美(mei)國(guo)也不少日(ri)子了(le)，但卻沒有音(yin)樂(le)(le)(le)人對(dui)他(ta)的(de)(de)音(yin)樂(le)(le)(le)感興趣(qu)。他(ta)看起(qi)剛(gang)剛(gang)朋友塞給(gei)他(ta)的(de)(de)一(yi)(yi)張名片(pian)(pian)，背后(hou)抄了(le)一(yi)(yi)個死刑犯的(de)(de)臨終(zhong)遺(yi)言，聽著(zhu)(zhu)《Lemoribond》，看著(zhu)(zhu)名片(pian)(pian)背后(hou)的(de)(de)字，他(ta)拿起(qi)了(le)吉他(ta)開(kai)始輕輕彈(dan)唱(chang)……

“但是時間(jian)一天(tian)天(tian)過去了，B和(he)C日日相對(dui)，兩(liang)顆孤獨的心越靠越近，逐漸產生了超越朋(peng)友之(zhi)間(jian)的那(nei)種(zhong)感情，那(nei)種(zhong)感情維(wei)系(xi)了兩(liang)年(nian)，而A卻絲毫沒有察覺，他依舊疼愛家人，信任朋(peng)友……

“他原本(ben)可(ke)以逃往臨(lin)州免于(yu)(yu)死(si)刑，但他選擇了徑直去警察局(ju)，在本(ben)州審(shen)判，陪審(shen)團一(yi)致(zhi)通過他犯故(gu)意殺人罪，被判處死(si)刑，于(yu)(yu)1957年2月6日(ri)執(zhi)行電(dian)椅死(si)刑。他被關在死(si)囚牢里，離行刑還有三天，一(yi)張紙(zhi)和一(yi)支筆塞了進來，給他寫(xie)臨(lin)終(zhong)的遺(yi)言。”
